My Toddler's First Words: Reviews

Kirkus Review My Toddler's First Words.JPG

If you have ever written a book, you probably know that writing in a quiet room by yourself can be a tad lonely at times.

“Writing fiction, especially a long work of fiction can be a difficult, lonely job; it’s like crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a bathtub. There’s plenty of opportunity for self-doubt.” – Stephen King

I’m certainly no Stephen King and mostly write non-fiction, but his quote struck a chord with me. My Toddler’s First Words took me approximately four years to complete. It was a solitary, time-consuming endeavor driven by passion to deliver a book that readers would find useful and encouraging. During the writing process, I had moments of joy and satisfaction interrupted by that self-doubt.…

This is probably why the past few days have been very exciting.

1. After waiting with bated breath, my review from Kirkus Reviews was finally available. I almost cried when I read it. Kirkus is known for being pretty harsh so I was nervous when I started reading…within seconds I was jumping for joy and ran around my home to tell my family that I received The Kirkus Star. According to Kirkus’ website, “The Kirkus Star is one of the most prestigious designations in the book industry. Look for the icon to discover books of exceptional merit.”

2. I received the first few reviews from readers on Amazon. THANK YOU!! I know it takes some time and effort to give a rating and write a review but please know I read EVERY review.  Your feedback, comments, and reviews keep me motivated to continue writing.

3. In May, I submitted My Toddler’s First Wordsfor a possible review from The Midwest Book Review. This is an organization that strives to promote literacy, library usage, and small press publishing. Since their reviewers are volunteers and so many books are mailed in to be reviewed, a book review is not guaranteed – a book has to make “the final cut” to be featured. I’m blessed to report that My Toddler’s First Wordsmade the final cut!
